창립자의 글
From Haelim, to the world.
O!Hora cannot be understood without stepping into my personal journey.
My life, my experiences, and the path I walked are woven into the heart of this academy—
and into the vision of what we are building as the Dream Center.
O!Hora는 제 개인적인 여정과 깊게 연결되어 있습니다.
제가 걸어온 길, 제가 경험한 배움, 그리고 제가 품어온 꿈들이 그대로 이곳의 철학과 방향성을 이루고 있기 때문입니다.
O!Hora는 단순히 영어학원이 아닌, 아이들의 꿈이 숨 쉬고 자라는 Dream Center를 향해 나아가고 있습니다.
Where My Story Begins
I still remember standing at my graduation ceremony as a valedictorian—
closing 12 years of education in one school,
the place where I dreamt freely and imagined my future without fear.
That school was not perfect in every measurable way,
but it was my playground of dreams
and the amusement park of my self-led projects.
Opportunities were everywhere,
and each one guided me to the next version of myself.
It was the spark that shaped my life—
personal, irreplaceable, and impossible to replicate.
졸업식 무대 위에서 졸업생 대표로 서 있던 순간이 지금도 제 마음속에 선명합니다 .
한 학교에서 12 년을 보내며 두려움 없이 미래를 그리던 시간 , 스스로 기획하고 만들어가던 프로젝트들 , 그 모든 것들이 제 꿈의 놀이터였고 저를 끊임없이 성장시키는 원동력이었습니다.
최고 수준의 모든 것을 갖춘 학교는 아니었지만, 그곳은 분명 저에게 가장 개인적이고, 가장 강력한 배움의 공간이었습니다. 다시는 복제될 수 없는, 제 인생만의 특별한 교육이었죠 .
Why Education Matters to Me
Today, I see students being spoon-fed information,
pressed into textbook frameworks,
and given little room to think, explore, or fail safely.
But growth happens through trying—
the simplest, most human act of learning.
As Benjamin Franklin said:
“Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
Involvement. Experience.
This is what education should protect.
오늘날의 교육 현실 속에서 많은 학생들이 교과서의 틀에 갇힌 채 스스로 생각하고 시도할 기회를 잃고있는 모습을 봅니다. 하지만 성장은 아주 단순한 곳에서 시작됩니다.
바로 "해보는 것 (try)"에서요.
벤자민 프랭클린은 이렇게 말했습니다 .
“말해주면 잊고, 가르치면 기억하지만, 참여시키면 배운다.”
배움은 참여이고, 경험이며,학생들에게 직접 해볼 기회를 주는 것에서 시작됩니다 .
이 단순한 원리가 교육의 본질이어야 하며 지켜야할 철학입니다.
A Childhood That Shaped My Calling
My journey with education began earlier than most—at age six.
Born in Korea, I moved to China at five and entered a local kindergarten.
Within months, Chinese became my second language, absorbed into my identity.
Soon after, I transitioned into an international IB school,
where English became my third language.
By six years old, I was navigating three languages
and naturally translating for friends, teachers, and parents.
Without realizing it, my teaching journey began here—
in classrooms, hallways, and friendships.
제 교육 여정은 남들보다 훨씬 일찍 , 여섯 살에 시작됐습니다.
한국에서 태어나 다섯 살에 중국으로 건너가 현지 유치원에서 제 첫 교육을 받았습니다.
몇 달 만에 중국어가 제 언어의 일부가 되었고 ,이후 국제학교로 옮기며 영어까지
자연스럽게 흡수하게 됐습니다.
여섯 살의 저는 세 언어를 사용하며 친구 · 선생님 · 부모님 사이에서 자연스럽게 통역하고
설명하는 '작은 선생님'이었습니다.
돌이켜보면, 저의 교육 여정은 그때 이미 시작되고 있었죠 .
One Dream: Light Schools
Throughout middle and high school,
my life centered on community and service.
Fundraisers, volunteer projects, and service events filled my years.
During this time, I saw the story of a homeless boy
doing his homework under McDonald’s lights.
That moment planted a lifelong dream—
to build light schools
for children who had the heart to learn but lacked opportunity.
This dream led me into business and administration.
Life took me through cosmetics, investment, and global trade,
checking off paths that weren’t mine
until I circled back to the truth:
Education, language, and children were where I was always meant to be.
중·고등학교 시절, 저는 사회 봉사로 가득한 삶을 살았습니다.
그 시절 봤던 한 기사는
제 인생의 방향을 완전히 바꿔 놓았습니다.
“맥도날드 불빛 아래서 숙제를 하던 노숙 소년 이야기.”

그 이후 저는 “빛이 있는 학교, Light School”을 만들고 싶다는 꿈을 꾸기 시작했습니다.
아이들이 꿈을 꾸기에 최소한의 환경이 주어지는 학교.
배우고 싶다는 마음만 있다면 누구든지 올 수 있는 학교.
그 꿈은 오늘까지도 제 마음 깊은 곳에 남아있습니다.
저는 이 꿈을 이루기 위해 경영학을 전공했지만,
인생은 쉽게 꾸며져 나오는 진저브레드 하우스가 아니었습니다.
화장품, 투자, 무역 등
여러 산업을 돌아다니며 커리어의 조각들을 채워갔습니다.
그 과정은 길었지만, 하나씩 확인해 나가는 시간이었습니다.
그리고 마침내 깨달았습니다.
내가 있어야 할 자리는 교육이고, 언어이고, 아이들이라는 것.
돌고 돌아온 이 길이 하나도 헛되지 않았다는 것도요.
Returning to My Calling
It took a long and meaningful detour,
but I now see why God led me through this path—
to become an entrepreneur in education.
But I don’t call O!Hora a business.
It is a project, a mission,
something that requires articulation, structure,
and purpose beyond profit.
Everything we build at O!Hora
comes from this foundation.
이제 저는 이 길이
하나님께서 제게 주신 소명임을 분명히 믿습니다.
교육 사업가가 아닌,
교육 프로젝트의 창립자로서요.
O!Hora는 단순한 사업이 아니라
명확한 철학과 구조,
그리고 아이들의 성장을 향한 진심으로 짜여진 프로젝트입니다.
